Body Pump Review

Body Pump Review

The first time I walked into a Body Pump Class I was confused. I had tried Combat & Attack so it only made sense to see what Pump was about.

When I saw all of the equipment needed, I didn’t know what I had put myself in for. I went over, picked up relatively light weights and set up.

I was quite confused with what I was doing, and just tried to copy what everyone around me had.

My advice for anyone trying Body Pump for the first time would be to arrive a good 10 minutes early, set up and ask your instructor what weights he thinks you should be using for your experience etc.

The class itself was tough. Unlike Combat & Attack, it isn’t cardio based, but this doesn’t mean you are not burning calories.

There are different tracks, focusing on different parts of the body and you are using weights to work out. This can vary from squats, lunges, push presses to biceps curls with weight on a bar. Some parts of tracks you also use free weights.

A Class for All Fitness Levels

You are constantly changing the weight on your bar to suit which muscles you use, and after your first class you will have an idea of what will suit you best. From there you can gradually increase what you use if they become too easy.

I didn’t expect to enjoy a strength based class, as me personally I don’t want to build a lot of muscle. The thought of lifting weights in a way scared me, but doing more reps with light weight will not build muscle, it helps tone.

Depending on what you want from your exercise, you can lift heavier weights etc. That’s what I believe is best about Body Pump. No matter what you want to achieve, this class can help. As you are choosing what weights to lift, this means it can suit a lot of fitness levels.
